Today in Crypto: Cboe’s 25-Year S&P 500 Deal Puts Tokenized Options on the Table

According to recent market coverage, cboe and S&P Dow Jones Indices extended their exclusive S&P 500 options licensing agreement for 25 years, keeping Cboe’s SPX rights in place through 2051.

The agreement also leaves room for the companies to explore products beyond traditional index derivatives, including tokenized options.

No such product has been announced, but the language shared comes as SPX trading reached a record 970.6 million contracts.

Cboe and S&P Dow Jones Indices have extended a relationship dating back to 1983 for another 25 years, giving Cboe exclusive rights to offer its flagship S&P 500 Index options, or SPX, through 2051.

Buried in the otherwise conventional licensing announcement, however, was a reference to something considerably newer.

The companies said they may collaborate on products beyond traditional index derivatives, specifically naming tokenized options contracts.

There’s no product yet, and the announcement offered no blockchain, launch date, settlement structure, or regulatory details.

For now, it amounts to an option to explore the idea rather than a commitment to build it.
